With museums these days as much a space for leisure as culture, the role and functioning of these institutions has been thoroughly reconsidered in recent years. This show in Lisbon's main cultural centre presents for consideration 24 major museums conceived and created in the past decade. They including the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, the Tate Modern, and the Centro Cultural de Belém itself. In almost all cases there's a fascinating interplay between the architecture and what goes on inside.

Deja Donne: Aria Spinta

Brussels dance fans get the chance to see what Paris, Budapest and New York audiences have raved about for months with the arrival of 'Aria Spinta'. The name means 'charged air' and the show owes much to an exchange of energy between performers and audience. Deja Donne is made up of Simone Sandroni, Ondrej Vajsar, Ivan Jozic, Teodora Popovova and Ivana Pikito. Based in Bohemia and Italy, members hail from Prague, Rome and Zagreb. Although the content remains constant, the atmosphere of the show changes markedly from place to place.

Muna Tseng Dance

Avant-garde dancer-choreographer Muna Tseng uses far more than the body in her work. Tseng ranges through photography, theatre, myths and her own life in fashioning dance. She is renowned for 'Ambiguous Ambassador', a homage to her brother, a photographer and performance artist who died of AIDS in 1990. Tseng uses campy photos of the late Tseng Kwong Chi in his trademark Mao jacket as a backdrop for 'Ambassador', which she will perform during a visit to the Contemporary Arts Centre.

It began in the gold mines of South Africa. The miners would dance in their wellington boots, as a means of escaping the danger and drudgery of their work. 'Gumboots', as it was called, is now an international sensation, thanks to a group of young dancers from Soweto. This production is not performed solely by South Africans, however. Included are artists from all over the continent. A hit in Europe, it was the cast's dream to perform in the United States. It should be well worth seeing their dream come true.

Using a vast range of visual aids, 'Marken, Macher, Mechanismen' attempts to explain the often amazing strategies used by ad companies to grab our attention in a crowded market place. It also offers a behind-the-scenes look at the creative processes that led to the creation of such figures as Marlboro Man and the purple cow used by Milka to try and increase its chocolate sales.
